Health Safety and Environmental Director

At ENERCON Gesellschaft mit beschränkter Haftung, we are seeking a dedicated and experienced Health Safety and Environmental Director to lead operations across Canada. This role demands a strategic leader capable of driving continuous improvement in HSE practices and integrating HSE objectives into all aspects of our operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Strategy

  1. Develop and maintain ENERCON's HSE program, focusing on risk assessment and mitigation for national wind power projects.
  2. Collaborate with senior management to establish regional HSE objectives, align with Global HSE goals, and manage the departmental budget.
  3. Define and implement the strategic HSE plan, ensuring alignment with corporate goals and regulatory requirements.

Operational Excellence

  1. Work closely with Installation, Services, and other support department managers to develop and meet operational HSE requirements.
  2. Continuously improve the integration of the VelocityEHS management system, ensuring its effective use.
  3. Oversee the management, training, and development of the HSE team, fostering a culture of safety and continuous learning.

Risk Management and Compliance

  1. Ensure compliance with all relevant federal and provincial laws, as well as industry standards.
  2. Identify and effectively control risks related to organizational operations, integrating HSE considerations into procurement processes and operational planning.
  3. Collaborate with government authorities during audits, investigations, and other necessary interventions.

Communication and Culture

  1. Promote and communicate a strong HSE culture across all levels of the organization.
  2. Serve as a subject matter expert on HSE issues, providing guidance and innovative solutions to the management team.
  3. Maintain a solid presence in challenging situations, demonstrating composure and effective decision-making under high stress.

Performance Monitoring and Improvement

  1. Update and monitor key performance indicators in health and safety, implementing effective measures to address issues.
  2. Manage the qualification process for organizations as required by clients.
  3. Develop and execute a strategic plan for effective claims management and promote return-to-health/return-to-work processes.

Qualifications:

  1. Undergraduate Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  2. Minimum of 10 years of experience, including 5 years in Health and Safety Management Systems.
  3. Proven experience in the management and implementation of essential OSH programs.
  4. Experience in high-risk assessments.
  5. Background in the wind industry or related sectors.
  6. Experience working closely with blue-collar workers on-site, with the ability to effectively communicate HSE culture to teams.
  7. CRSP certification is required.
  8. Solid knowledge of multiple ISO standards, including ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
  9. Extensive experience with Canadian Occupational Health and Safety regulations and standards.
  10. Willingness to travel across ENERCON sites.
  11. Proficiency in French and English (oral and written).
  12. Proficiency in MS Office applications.
