About the Opportunity

Zurich Canada Legal Services is seeking a highly skilled Insurance Defense Lawyer to join our team. As a key member of our in-house department, you will be responsible for handling a wide range of insurance law matters, including personal injury litigation.

This is an exceptional opportunity for a motivated and ambitious individual to develop their skills and expertise in a supportive and collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Represent Zurich insureds in all phases of defense litigation, including trial preparation and presentation.
  • Conduct legal analysis and research to ensure accurate and effective case handling.
  • Prepare and manage pre-trial discovery, and participate in judicial or administrative hearings and trials.
  • Document case files accurately and maintain up-to-date records.
  • Collaborate with claims adjusters to achieve timely resolutions to matters.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to clients, responding to inquiries and following customer protocols.
  • Determine and implement alternative dispute resolution techniques as appropriate.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and staying current with industry trends.
  • Contribute to the team effort by accomplishing related results and collaborating on matters as needed.
  • Ensure legal compliance by following provincial and federal laws and regulations.
Requirements
  • Juris Doctor and 1 or more years of experience in the litigation area, including personal injury, products liability, and property damage in the BC Supreme Court, BC Provincial Court, and/or CRT.
  • Member of the Law Society of British Columbia in good standing.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and Adobe, as well as LexisNexis or Westlaw.
  • Knowledge of the insurance industry, claims, and the insurance defense litigation legal environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.
  • Experience working in a team-based environment.
  • Strong collaboration and trial advocacy skills.
