- Prescribe medications and administer treatments as necessary.
- Provide vaccinations and inoculations to safeguard against diseases.
- Offer guidance and advice on health care and lifestyle choices.

- Act as an advocate for patients' health needs.
- Manage and coordinate primary care for patients.

- Certification from the College of Family Physicians (CCFP).
- Licensure from provincial or territorial medical authorities.
