Freight Car Maintenance Technician Trainee

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Conduct repairs, maintenance, and inspections on freight car machinery in a secure and effective manner. Execute all preventive maintenance tasks and repairs on trucks, undercarriage, framework, safety devices, braking mechanisms, coupling systems, and any related assessments. Handle all tasks related to urgent repairs, fieldwork, and additional service operations of equipment. Manage the repair and installation of all related piping, valves, guards, shrouds, covers, and perform any cutting, burning, welding, grinding, soldering, and brazing necessary for the removal or installation of components.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

A High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma is required. Preference will be given to candidates with a journeyman welder certification or a commercial driver's license. A valid driver's license is advantageous. Experience as a boilermaker or ironworker is a plus. Familiarity with heavy metal fabrication and welding is beneficial. Ability to adhere to strict safety and operational guidelines to complete tasks effectively. Strong analytical and computer skills are essential. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, are required.
