Position: School Safety Monitor
Work Schedule: Various shifts available
Compensation: $18.16 per shift

Required Qualifications:
- Minimum age of 18 years;
- Basic first aid training is advantageous but not mandatory;
- Effective communication skills with children and adults, along with proficiency in English;
- Physical fitness is essential, including adequate vision, hearing, and mobility. Must be capable of holding a handheld stop sign for extended durations.
- Successful completion of a criminal background check and child abuse registry is required.
- Potential work hours include three shifts (AM, Lunch, PM). Each shift typically lasts 15-30 minutes, but staff are compensated for one hour of work per shift, allowing flexibility for late arrivals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Punctuality is crucial; notify in advance if unable to attend.
- Always wear the reflective vest and carry the traffic STOP paddle while on duty.
- Ensure your vehicle is parked safely and legally, maintaining visibility of traffic.
- Guide and instruct students and pedestrians in safely crossing streets and highways near the school.
- Promote safe crossing behaviors among pedestrians.
- Discourage unsafe actions by pedestrians when necessary.
- Use appropriate signals to inform drivers that pedestrians are using or about to use the crosswalk.
- Monitor and report any hazardous incidents or conditions.
- Remain at your post during duty hours; do not sit in your vehicle.
- Do not leave your post during duty hours; if an emergency arises, contact the school principal for assistance.
- Set a positive example at all times.
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues when working in pairs.
- Maintain a professional demeanor to earn the respect of community members and children.
- Avoid smoking, using tobacco products, or consuming alcohol or drugs while on duty, including medical marijuana.
- Personal cell phones and electronic devices should not be used while on duty unless in an emergency.
- Refrain from reading or listening to music; earbuds are prohibited.
- Do not engage drivers in conversation.
- Exercise caution when using medications that may cause drowsiness.
- Avoid physical contact with children and do not allow them in your vehicle.
- Assist educators, parents, and law enforcement in teaching children about safe practices on the road.
- Report any concerns or incidents to the school principal.
- Crossing guards must be present at their designated posts during scheduled times and remain on duty until their shift concludes.
