Position Overview

The Health Policy Research Analyst plays a crucial role in enhancing the operations of pharmaceutical and supplemental health initiatives overseen by the Minister of Health. This role involves planning, researching, and analyzing operational challenges, with a focus on identifying and implementing strategies that will improve drug and health programs in Alberta.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research and prepare documentation to support the operations of Alberta's Drug Programs.
  • Evaluate data and evidence to guide the formulation of program and policy alternatives.
  • Perform evaluations of program effectiveness by monitoring service utilization and coverage.
  • Aggregate and analyze data from multiple sources to produce reports on program trends.
  • Address operational inquiries and clarify business rules or interpret policies as necessary.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements that enhance patient experiences and assess their implications.
  • Provide analytical insights and recommendations that align with operational plans to achieve departmental objectives.
  • Draft high-quality responses for letters or briefing notes in Action Requests within specified timelines.
  • Manage and oversee contracts for specific projects or grants.
  • Assist in the creation of research reports, position papers, and various documents related to advanced education policies and programs.
  • Maintain and update program-related information for the department, ensuring current status on publicly funded drug programs in Alberta.
  • Support the development and tracking of departmental performance metrics.
  • Generate status reports on publicly funded drug programs, including inter-provincial comparisons, cost trends, and policy impact assessments.
  • Identify and analyze emerging issues and trends in advanced education, assessing their potential effects on division policies and programs.
  • Conduct thorough reviews and synthesize literature on drug programs and policies from diverse sources.
  • Collaborate with other branches, divisions, ministries, and governments to facilitate program development, redesign, and research analysis.
