Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada PHSA Full time

Clinical Research Fellowship in Oncology Imaging

The Clinical Research Department at PHSA is currently seeking a dedicated Post-Doctoral Research Fellow specializing in Cancer Imaging. This role is situated within the Cancer Medical Imaging Core Lab, which focuses on the quantitative assessment of oncology images to derive critical insights that enhance clinical research and trials.

Our lab is committed to advancing clinically relevant research initiatives aimed at identifying 'digital' biomarkers, investigating quantitative imaging techniques that can forecast treatment responses, and developing innovative imaging tools to support precision oncology. Research activities encompass medical image interpretation, quantitative analysis across various imaging modalities, the application of artificial intelligence to imaging datasets, and correlating findings with clinical outcomes across diverse cancer types.

We are looking for a highly driven individual to spearhead efforts in discovering 'digital' biomarkers that can effectively predict clinical outcomes in oncology. The successful candidate will thrive in a vibrant academic environment, characterized by collaborative research and close engagement with clinical teams. This position presents an exceptional opportunity to work in a multidisciplinary setting that bridges radiology, oncology, medical physics, and image analysis.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A PhD or MD-PhD in the field of radiology or medical imaging, or equivalent training in medical imaging interpretation, is required. Candidates with extensive experience in clinical medical imaging (especially CT and MRI) but without formal clinical training are also encouraged to apply.
  • Desirable skills include:
    • Proficiency in reading and interpreting medical imaging (CT and MRI) in human subjects.
    • Knowledge of quantitative image analysis, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and radiomics. Familiarity with image analysis software is advantageous.
    • Understanding of the role of imaging in cancer diagnosis and treatment, as well as common clinical outcomes in cancer patients.
    • Strong English language skills for effective communication, scientific writing, and presentations.
    • Basic statistical knowledge and analytical skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with core lab leaders and clinical teams to formulate research hypotheses and design studies.
  • Independently plan and execute experimental work.
  • Review and interpret imaging data, annotating targets for quantitative analysis under the guidance of a radiologist.
  • Organize, analyze, and present data for group discussions and publications.
  • Maintain strong interactions with core lab members, trainees, and external collaborators, contributing to the training of new lab personnel.
  • Aid in the development and implementation of new methodologies within the Core Lab.
  • Participate in manuscript writing and grant applications.
