Position Overview:

Role Summary:

The Campus Safety Service at the University of Toronto is currently seeking dedicated and community-focused individuals for the role of 4th Class Special Constables. This position operates under an agreement with local police services, ensuring that our law enforcement and security measures are tailored to the unique needs of our diverse university environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct foot and mobile patrols across campus.
  • Manage traffic and crowd control during events.
  • Provide escort services for university personnel and property users as needed.
  • Operate the communications desk, responding to inquiries and requests for assistance.
  • Investigate incidents occurring on university property under supervision.
  • Ensure the security of university facilities and report any safety hazards.
  • Assist the public by providing information on university policies and services.
  • Maintain accurate records in a Special Constable memo book.
  • Prepare detailed reports as required.
  • Offer security support for visiting dignitaries.
  • Contribute to crime prevention initiatives.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Educational Background: Candidates should have graduated from an accredited college or university, or possess equivalent experience. Those without a degree may be considered if they have three years of relevant experience in policing, security, or loss prevention, along with a solid understanding of Canadian and Ontario laws.

Experience Requirements: A minimum of one year of related work experience is preferred; educational qualifications may substitute for experience.

Clearance Requirements: Applicants must have no criminal convictions and must be able to pass background checks conducted by relevant authorities.

Testing Requirements: Candidates must successfully complete interviews, medical examinations, and psychological assessments. For those without a valid OACP certificate, a fitness test will be required.

Additional Requirements:

  • Possession of a valid Ontario Class "G" driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Current Standard First Aid and Level "C" CPR certification.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with the university community.
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace.

Work Schedule: This is a full-time position, averaging 40 hours per week, with shifts covering a 24/7 operation.
