What is the role?
The Senior Vice President of Credit for Real Estate Markets serves as the primary authority on credit matters within the Real Estate sector, cultivating strategic alliances to align with the organization's objectives while addressing the most intricate client segments. As the leader of the department, this role fosters a culture of excellence, mentoring Associate Directors to guarantee superior client interactions.
Key Responsibilities
Enhancing Client Experience
- Facilitates a collaborative atmosphere by engaging with Vice Presidents in regular discussions to address client credit requirements through contributions and proactive assistance for SLR updates, documentation, and follow-ups.
- Guides the team to take responsibility for client issues, escalating concerns to the appropriate stakeholders.
- Motivates the team to collaborate with peers to implement a unified client management strategy, adhering to client prioritization and annual review protocols.
- Available to assist Associate Directors in addressing immediate client demands.
Client Solutions and Growth Initiatives
- Actively participates in industry events related to Real Estate.
- Maintains strong engagement and knowledge with key financial and legal partners for complex syndication transactions.
- Mentors and influences the team to provide credit solutions that meet or surpass client expectations while proactively identifying additional growth opportunities.
- Oversees the credit renewal process for the region in partnership with Vice Presidents, ensuring effective management of fluctuating volumes and timely completion of analyses, structuring, documentation, and negotiations.
- Collaborates with the CFS relationship team and CAG/GRM partners to ensure timely delivery of credit solutions to clients.
Employee Development and Engagement
- Exhibits a commitment to teamwork and collaboration by coaching and mentoring colleagues to fulfill the credit needs of all clients.
- Encourages team members to leverage technology effectively to execute client strategies, sales activities, and opportunities while building corporate knowledge and ensuring continuity in client servicing.
- Engages in workforce planning with the Regional Vice President and maintains an active talent pipeline, assisting employees in understanding career paths and providing guidance on their developmental activities.
- Supports the Regional Vice President in delivering credit coaching to all Vice Presidents on structuring complex transactions and introducing improvements in credit processes, policies, and trends.
- Continues to establish a center of expertise in complex Real Estate credit to support field training and advisory services.
Business and Risk Oversight
- Collaborates with Vice Presidents in Real Estate Markets to ensure that market credit needs are adequately addressed.
- Guides the team to work cooperatively and respectfully with GRM partners.
- In partnership with the Portfolio Quality Manager, provides expert guidance to Vice Presidents in resolving complex issues related to ongoing portfolio management.
- Demonstrates sound judgment in decision-making, balancing shareholder risk with client experience.
- Stays informed on all communications, including updates to company policies and procedures, ensuring compliance among team members.
- Manages Single Name Risk Rating (SNRR), Expired BRRs, and SLR processes within established goals and guidelines, working closely with Vice Presidents to meet portfolio metrics and proactively manage watchlist accounts.

- Robust business acumen with extensive knowledge of large, complex real estate credit exposures, the financial industry, and commercial banking.
- Solid operational effectiveness with a comprehensive understanding of credit management, product and pricing policies, privacy regulations, code of conduct, and anti-money laundering requirements.
- Minimum post-secondary diploma or degree, preferably in Commerce, Business Administration, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- MBA, Accounting designation (CPA/CA/CGA/CMA), or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).
