The City of Delta is seeking committed individuals to enhance our team, dedicated to excellence in public service.

Role Overview

This position involves the operation of a shuttle vehicle to provide transportation services for seniors within designated areas. The role requires adherence to all traffic regulations and safety protocols while maintaining punctuality. Although the primary responsibility is driving, the operator will also engage with senior passengers, assisting them with boarding and alighting, including handling mobility aids, ensuring their safety, and managing pick-up and drop-off arrangements. The operator will exercise independent judgment in various situations while working with minimal supervision, with performance evaluated based on safe driving practices and service quality.

Key Responsibilities

Operates a shuttle vehicle in compliance with traffic laws and safety standards; follows established schedules and routes. Assists senior passengers with boarding and alighting, including managing mobility devices and providing necessary support. Ensures passenger safety by confirming proper seating and use of seatbelts; responds to inquiries and provides information as needed. Conducts pre- and post-trip inspections of the shuttle vehicle; ensures maintenance is performed as required. Maintains a daily log of trips and activities. Performs safety checks and reports any incidents related to safety or service. Cleans and fuels the shuttle vehicle as needed. Keeps accurate records and documentation related to the role using computer systems; participates in meetings and training as necessary. Collaborates with other shuttle operators and relevant personnel. Undertakes additional related duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Comprehensive understanding of safe shuttle operation and accident prevention measures. Proficient in assisting senior passengers with mobility challenges. Familiarity with the local area and scheduling practices. Competent in using computer systems and related equipment. Ability to foster positive relationships with colleagues and the public. Excellent interpersonal skills, particularly with senior citizens. Proficient in English for effective communication. Skilled in operating a small shuttle vehicle. Physically capable of assisting individuals with mobility aids.

Preferred Experience and Training

Completion of secondary education supplemented by experience working with seniors or individuals with disabilities, or a combination of relevant training and experience.

Required Certifications

Class 1, 2, or 4 (unrestricted) BC Driver's License Emergency First Aid, Standard First Aid, or OFA Level 1 Certificate
