About The RoleAs a Senior Estimator, reporting to the Estimating Manager, you will play a key role in supporting and leading various project pursuits within our Winnipeg Buildings division. You will engage in project pursuits for Industrial, Commercial, Institutional, Water and Waste Water Treatment plants, and Hydro-Electric projects, while also mentoring and developing your colleagues.
Key Responsibilities:- Define the project scope of work.
- Establish and finalize estimates using the company’s standard estimating software.
- Create preliminary construction schedules.
- Conduct estimate quantification and draft labor costings.
- Identify and develop constructability requirements for project execution.
- Evaluate design criteria and recommend options for cost, engineering quality, and material availability.
- Identify potential project risks and cost mitigation strategies, as well as opportunities for savings.
- Assess strategies, advantages, or innovations that could enhance Graham's competitive bidding.
- Draft labor and equipment productivity applications based on historical data.
- Review subcontractor bids for completeness and accuracy.
- Compile conceptual/budget costs using analytics from past projects and benchmarking.
- Develop scopes of work for subcontractors to assist in budgeting for smaller, less complex projects.
- Prepare a schedule of all activities necessary to complete a fully quantified and costed estimate.
- Provide accurate risk and scope assessments for completed estimates.
- Generate risk mitigation plans that encompass bonding, insurance costs, and appropriate contingencies.
- Select and invite financially viable trade partners with sufficient manpower and expertise for the work.
- Foster and maintain relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders that reflect Graham's core values.
- Lead a team of support estimators and operational staff, overseeing their planning, delegation, and quality of work on medium to large complexity projects.
- Facilitate the Kick-Off Meeting, weekly strategy sessions, and any formal meetings necessary to ensure the estimate process adheres to established milestones.
- Understand potential fee pressures and engage in discussions to accurately assess and calculate fees.
- Completion of a degree or diploma in a construction-related field.
- Over 10 years of experience in construction, combining field and estimating experience is advantageous.
- Proficiency in MS Excel, Primavera, OnScreen Takeoff, Bluebeam, and BIM modeling is beneficial.
