API Software Engineer

Sun Life Financial is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented API Software Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our API Platform Engineering team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and deploying API components in the cloud and on-premise environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Participate in the design, development, and deployment of API components, including gateways, service-mesh, runtimes, security, logging, and exception handling.
- Collaborate with the team to construct, maintain, and continuously improve the core infrastructure that underlies API development.
- Design and develop the CI/CD pipeline for API lifecycle management.
- Implement an Enterprise Event Hub using Kafka.
- Identify defects in platform modules, debug issues, and provide effective solutions.
- Develop an understanding of project best practices around continuous integration and delivery.
Requirements:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
- Previous experience with programming in Java is required.
- Understanding of APIs, Event-Driven Solutions, DevOps, containers, Kubernetes, and cloud.
- Self-starter with tenacious inquisitiveness and a desire to learn.
- Previous experience with C#, Python, and/or JavaScript is a plus.
- Experience with scripting languages for automation is a plus.
- Knowledge of API development in AWS Serverless environment is a plus.
- Knowledge of CI/CD solutions is a plus.
- Proficiency in building and deploying solutions with Spring Boot is a plus.
- Awareness of modern event-based architectures and patterns is a plus.
- Exposure to building solutions using Apache Kafka is a plus.
