About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our team at Avondale Construction Ltd Atlantic as a Senior Estimator. As a key member of our Nova Scotia operations, you will play a crucial role in supporting and leading project pursuits in various sectors, including healthcare, education, hospitality, and more.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Scope Development: Determine and create project scope of work to enable subcontractor assistance.
  • Construction Scheduling: Prepare preliminary construction schedules based on subcontractor input.
  • Constructability Requirements: Identify and develop constructability requirements for project construction.
  • Design Criteria Analysis: Analyze design criteria and assist in recommending best options based on cost, engineering quality, and availability of materials.
  • Risk and Cost Mitigation: Identify and propose project risk and cost mitigation strategies, as well as potential opportunities for cost savings.
  • Subcontractor Bid Analysis: Analyze and propose subcontractor bids for irregularities and ensure the full scope of work is included.
  • Bid Close Participation: Participate in or lead the bid close with the oversight of a more senior estimator.
  • Conceptual and Budget Costing: Assemble conceptual and budget costs using past project analytics, benchmarking, and historical data.
  • Team Leadership: Lead a small team of support estimators and operational staff, assisting with the planning of their time and overseeing delegation and quality of work.
  • Client and Stakeholder Relationships: Build upon and maintain relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders that reflect and support Avondale's core values.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Completion of a construction-related degree or diploma training program.
  • 5+ years of construction-related experience, including a combination of field and estimating experience, is an asset.
  • Proficiency in the use of MS Excel, On-screen Takeoff, MS Project, and Bluebeam is an asset.
