About the Role

We are seeking an experienced IT Portfolio Manager to join our team at Seaspan. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for leading the development and establishment of our IT portfolio management practice.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Governance
    • Drive engagement with business leaders to cultivate a project delivery mindset, practice, and approach.
    • Establish and manage an IT project portfolio process to intake, prioritize, gate, and execute IT projects across the Marine Group.
    • Facilitate the development of project charters and budget approval requirements.
    • Support the establishment of governance structures and forums to ensure clear accountability and decision-making for the portfolio and within project projects.
  • Portfolio Management
    • Develop and implement portfolio management processes and tools to align project efforts with the organization's strategic agenda.
    • Develop and maintain project management methodologies, processes, and tools such as project charters, project plans, project controls, reporting, and governance.
    • Ensure compliance with project management standards and procedures.
  • Project Management
    • Monitor project progress and performance to ensure alignment with objectives, expectations, and commitments.
    • Facilitate project retrospectives to incorporate learning and continuous improvement in SMG's project management capability.
    • Provide guidance and support for all IT project management activities within the organization.
  • Stakeholder Management
    • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders across multiple locations.
    • Drive engagement with business leaders and project stakeholders to cultivate a project delivery mindset, practice, and approach.
    • Establish and manage communication mechanisms to ensure portfolio and project transparency, collaboration, and dependency management.
  • Change Management
    • Identify change management impacts and collaborate with project teams to develop change management plans.
    • Collaborate with project managers and business leadership to manage project risks and develop risk mitigation strategies.
  • Reporting and Analysis
    • Oversee the portfolio's budget and resource plan to ensure alignment with commitments and priorities.
    • Generate reports on portfolio performance and KPIs.
Requirements
  • Education
    • University degree in a business or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience
    • Minimum 10 years of related work experience with 5 years direct experience managing large organizational projects.
    • Extensive practical experience with core processes including Maritime Operations, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Human Capital Management (HCM), and Business Intelligence (BI).
  • Certifications
    • PMP (Project Management Professional) or equivalent certification is an asset.
  • Skills
    • Strong leadership and relationship-building skills to lead teams in distributed environments involved in delivering complex changes.
    • Strong executive presence and ability to engage with senior partners; collaborates effectively to meet common goals and objectives.
    • Meticulously organized and able to prioritize with business leads and defend prioritization.
    • Consistent track record in successful cross-functional program and/or transformational management.
    • Able to think strategically and make quick decisions to steer transformation successfully.
    • Strong communication skills and business acumen to ensure partner management (up/down/lateral communications).
    • Strong coaching acumen with proven experience in developing others.
    • Ability to persuade, influence, motivate, and resolve conflicts.
    • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends to meet deadlines. Some travel may be required.
