POSITION OVERVIEW
The HVAC Technician Apprentice - Roving is expected to possess a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience and hold a valid Certificate of Qualification from the province where the work is conducted. This role entails the operation of facility systems, executing preventative and corrective maintenance, and performing routine services on mechanical systems within the designated facility, adhering to company policies and trade certifications. The Technician IV – UA787 HVAC Apprentice - Roving is also tasked with executing work in line with established protocols and complying with both internal and external standards, including environmental, health and safety, security, and fire protection regulations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Installation & Troubleshooting
- Install air conditioning, heating, and associated equipment and components.
- Overhaul and service air conditioning and heating units and systems.
- Repair, replace, and adjust worn or defective parts of HVAC equipment.
- Repair and adjust valves, piping connections, fittings, and couplings.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot issues with heating and air conditioning units and systems.
- Install motors, thermostats, and humidistats.
Maintenance
- Execute work in accordance with established processes and practices.
- Adhere to all internal and external requirements, including environmental, health and safety, and fire protection standards.
- Respond to routine and urgent service requests, performing preventative and corrective maintenance activities at the assigned facility.
- Conduct regular monitoring, inspections, and maintenance to ensure operational uptime and safety objectives are achieved, maintaining asset integrity.
- Monitor the assigned facility through walkthroughs and equipment/system evaluations.
- Assist in implementing a preventative maintenance (PM) program, ensuring deficiencies are documented and escalated appropriately.
- Maintain an accurate inventory of all assigned tools and equipment, arranging for repairs and replacements as necessary.
Client Engagement
- Provide insights regarding facility conditions and deficiencies, offering recommendations for improvements and repairs.
- Participate in and assist with facility-related projects.
Administrative Duties
- Engage in and support facility-related projects.
- Ensure compliance with corporate and legislative policies, procedures, and guidelines related to environmental, health and safety, and fire protection.
- Maintain all assigned tools and arrange for repairs and replacements as needed.
- Submit all expenditures promptly.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- Registered with Union Local 787.
- Minimum years of experience as a licensed HVAC/Refrigeration Apprentice.
- Strong ability to adhere to and execute processes related to facility operations and maintenance.
- Proficient in troubleshooting and resolving building mechanical systems issues.
- Current knowledge of fire, life, safety, and building codes, with the ability to research and apply relevant standards.
- Demonstrates a strong commitment to environmental, health, and safety practices.
- Strong client-service orientation with a high sense of urgency.
- Effective communication skills for data exchange and clarification.
- Mentoring abilities to support the development of junior technicians.
- Willingness to work shifts and be available for on-call/standby and emergency situations.
- Must be willing to wear Personal Protective Equipment.
- Must meet enhanced security clearance requirements.
- Valid driver's license.
Licenses and Professional Accreditations
- Must hold a valid HVAC Certificate of Qualification from the province where the work is performed.
- Gasfitter I & II license, in addition to refrigeration license, is an asset.
- Working towards Building Environment Systems (BES) Operation Class 1 is an asset.
- Facilities Technician Certification from an accredited institution is considered an asset.
- Systems Maintenance Technician (SMT) certification is considered an asset.
