The Opportunity:

The City of Red Deer is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Technician to join their team. As a Heavy Equipment Technician, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a variety of vehicles, equipment, and tools to ensure they are in good working order and safe operating condition.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose and repair complex mechanical and electrical issues with heavy equipment
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as oil changes and tire rotations
  • Conduct inspections to identify potential issues and prevent breakdowns
  • Collaborate with other technicians to resolve complex problems
  • Develop and implement maintenance schedules to ensure equipment is properly maintained

Requirements:

  • Grade 11 and an Alberta Heavy Equipment Technician Certificate
  • Additional courses in welding, metal stress, and fatigue, air brakes, ABS brakes, hydraulics, computer components, electrical systems, and government vehicle inspections
  • Valid Alberta Class 3 Drivers' License with Q endorsement
  • Full set of mechanics tools as per management's list
  • Knowledge of diesel and gasoline internal combustion engines, electrical systems, and ability to diagnose problems

Working Conditions:

The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced environment with a variety of heavy equipment and tools. They will be required to work independently and as part of a team, and will be expected to maintain a high level of physical fitness due to the demands of the job.
