About the Role

Douglas College is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to join our team as a Peer Tutor. As a Peer Tutor, you will play a vital role in supporting students in developing their academic skills and achieving their academic goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with students to develop academic success strategies for writing, communication, course content, computer skills, and study skills.
  • Engage in continuous professional development and training to enhance your skills and knowledge.
  • Assist students in scheduling appointments, referring them to other resources, conducting workshops, and participating in marketing activities.
  • Collaborate with internal committees to promote academic success and student engagement.

Requirements

  • Hold a minimum of a "B" average in the subject content being tutored, or have documented experience equivalent to a "B" average in the subject content being tutored.
  • Have strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students and staff.
  • Be able to take initiative and exercise critical thinking in a fast-paced environment.
  • Have a high level of emotional intelligence and be able to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Office365.
  • Have a valid Study Permit (for international students) or be a domestic student enrolled in a minimum of one or more (3 credit) courses at Douglas College throughout the work term.
