Position Overview

The Electrical Safety Officer plays a crucial role in promoting and ensuring public safety within the electrical industry. Reporting directly to the Operations Leader, Energy, this position is responsible for educating stakeholders and the public on safety standards, regulations, and codes to ensure compliance and awareness.

Compensation: Pay Grade 16 ($54.64 per hour)

Key Responsibilities:

Education: Deliver educational programs and presentations to clients and stakeholders, ensuring they are informed about safety requirements and the latest industry trends. This may include public speaking engagements and workshops. Inspection: Conduct thorough inspections, including audits of worksites, investigations of incidents, and identification of hazards, to verify that safety regulations and standards are adhered to. Review requests for variances and provide recommendations to the Operations Leader. Compliance & Enforcement: Enforce safety policies by providing clear guidelines and outlining potential consequences for non-compliance, along with disciplinary recommendations to the Operations Leader. Research: Engage in research activities by documenting inspections, conducting audits, and investigating incidents. Stay informed about industry developments to maintain expertise and enhance knowledge and skills. Training: Mentor and train new Safety Officers through hands-on training, ongoing support, and regular guidance.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of a recognized electrical apprenticeship program. A preference for candidates with a two-year diploma in electrical technology from an accredited institution. A minimum of five years of relevant experience in the installation and maintenance of electrical systems. At least one year of experience in a supervisory role overseeing electrical installation projects. Familiarity with audit programs and risk assessment methodologies. Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities. Proficient in conducting investigations, interviewing individuals, taking notes, and drafting concise reports. Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and code specifications. Competence in utilizing computer systems and common software applications. A valid driver's license and willingness to travel as required. Physical capability to handle tools (up to 30 lbs.), navigate ladders and uneven terrain, access confined spaces, and drive long distances. FSR certification is considered an asset.

The selected candidate will be required to pass an Electrical Inspector's Certificate of Qualification examination within the first six months of employment, achieving a minimum score of 70% to meet the competition criteria.
