Position Overview

As early adopters of cloud technology, we migrated to AWS over seven years ago and continuously strive to leverage new and emerging technologies to enhance value for our clients. We utilize a variety of AWS technologies in both production and experimental settings, and we seek a skilled individual to join us on this journey.

The Cloud Operations Engineer role will be part of a small, agile support and development team. This position involves engineering and maintenance responsibilities, contributing to a team focused on applications that support hosting and network operations.

In this role, you will assist in both the support and operations of our existing cloud applications, as well as the design and deployment of new cloud solutions. You will work on the web hosting, email, DNS, and domain systems that power the websites of our diverse clientele.

Minimum Qualifications:

A degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, along with experience in systems administration or DevOps, is required for this position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide second-level support for client websites, applications, and email services.
  • Offer occasional after-hours support (up to 1-2 incidents per week).
  • Maintain Plesk and Virtuozzo VPS servers.
  • Enhance and maintain existing AWS infrastructure.
  • Monitor system stability and performance, troubleshooting site issues as they arise.
  • Administer Unix/Linux and Windows-based systems.
  • Manage database systems (MSSQL, MySQL).
  • Utilize cloud computing services and methodologies with AWS.
  • Research, develop, and implement the latest AWS technologies.
  • Engage in coding and scripting using various open-source technologies and tools.
  • Work with infrastructure as code tools such as Opsworks.
  • Contribute to IT operations processes.

Required Skills:

  • Strong proficiency in system administration, security, networking, and web technologies.
  • Comprehensive understanding of core network protocols and services (TCP/IP, REST/SOAP, FTPS/SFTP, DNS, SSL, firewalls, load balancers).
  • Advanced knowledge of AWS Services including: EC2, VPC, S3, ELB, EBS, RDS, Route53.
  • Familiarity with Agile & Scrum project management methodologies.
  • Analytical skills for performance measurement and data-driven decision-making.
  • Ability to leverage advanced cloud platform services and techniques.
  • Experience with Source Control, Automated Build, and Continuous Integration.
  • Commitment to maintainable and testable code.
  • Knowledge of progressive release strategies.

Professional Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in enterprise Linux and Windows DevOps, configuration management, software development, and agile processes.
  • 5 years of experience working in a Linux environment.
  • 2 years of experience with scripting languages such as Bash, Perl, Python, or JavaScript.
  • 2 years of experience writing or editing technical documentation.
