Position Overview: This role is responsible for the creation and development of dies and tools essential for producing high-quality products.
Qualifications:
- Certification as a Tool & Die Maker;
- Effective communication skills in English, both written and verbal;
- Extensive knowledge of operating Toolroom and production machinery;
- Proficiency in computer usage;
- Understanding of Statistical Process Control (SPC) guidelines;
- Strong time management and problem-solving abilities;
- Comprehensive understanding of blueprint reading and interpretation of tools and dies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure timely completion of repairs, toolroom housekeeping, and the creation of new dies, tooling, fixtures, and jigs to prevent production interruptions by:
- Calculating dimensions and tolerances while setting up machine tools;
- Positioning, securing, measuring, and preparing metal stock or castings for machining;
- Setting up, operating, and maintaining various machine tools;
- Performing tool steel welding;
- Verifying machined components for compliance with specifications using precision measuring instruments;
- Fitting, assembling, or disassembling parts using hand tools;
- Machining, fitting, and assembling castings and other components to create metal patterns and core boxes.
- Conduct preventative maintenance on tools and dies according to established schedules;
- Address quality-related issues promptly, providing resolutions and recommendations to minimize production disruptions;
- Accurately document daily tasks and complete production sheets;
- Optimize operational costs through effective planning and resource utilization;
- Quantitative Responsibilities:
- Maintain 38 presses;
- Oversee 1200 dies.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant codes, standards, and regulations, including Environmental Legislation and Occupational Health and Safety Act;
- Adhere to all company policies, including Health and Safety, Quality and Environmental Systems, and Human Resources policies.
Work Environment:
- 100% plant floor (Personal Protective Equipment required).
Decision-Making Authority:
- Make decisions regarding die/tool troubleshooting and repairs;
- Respond to production needs and set priorities;
- Provide recommendations for cost savings, quality improvements, and safety enhancements.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequent handling of heavy equipment;
- Concentration on surroundings is essential;
- Ability to lift up to 35 lbs;
- Ability to work with push-pull forces of up to 50 lbs or less.
Health and Safety:
- Comply with Health and Safety regulations, company policies, and plant rules;
- Utilize Personal Protective Equipment and appropriate clothing as mandated by the company.
