Your Contribution

Are you enthusiastic about artificial intelligence? Do you enjoy crafting solutions that enable rapid, state-of-the-art scientific advancements? As a Machine Learning Engineer at Axon, you will play a crucial role in designing and implementing the platform utilized by Axon scientists to revolutionize public safety. Working closely with fellow engineers, you will facilitate the introduction of new AI functionalities for Axon products (Fleet, Axon Body, Axon Air, and more) by assisting in the training, assessment, testing, and deployment of machine learning models. As part of a multidisciplinary team, you will engage with a variety of domains and applications: from computer vision to speech recognition and natural language understanding, including large language models. The ideal candidate will have a proven history of effectively leveraging and managing large-scale distributed platforms for secure and compliant research in the cloud. They will be knowledgeable about the AI lifecycle and capable of supporting scientists throughout the development of cutting-edge AI solutions, thereby contributing to the transformation of public safety.

Responsibilities

  • Design solutions for training and evaluating models on a distributed architecture.
  • Enhance the evaluation and training processes of models within Axon.
  • Develop innovative, strategic distributed solutions for ongoing model enhancement.
  • Provide groundbreaking, strategic solutions to expedite innovation.
  • Influence the AI community by creating state-of-the-art solutions for privacy-preserving distributed model training.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related highly technical field.
  • 8+ years of software engineering experience with a successful track record in training.
  • Proficiency in Python, with familiarity in ML frameworks such as TensorFlow, Keras, and PyTorch.
  • Advanced knowledge and practical experience with at least one cloud environment (such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, Oracle, or Google Cloud) and Infrastructure as Code for deploying platforms at scale.
  • Experience with CI/CD solutions in the context of MLOps, including automation with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., using Terraform).
  • Strong problem-solving and software design capabilities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with scientists, engineers, and ML/product managers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree/PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, Electronics, Mathematics, or a related highly technical field.
  • Practical experience in addressing Computer Vision or Speech Recognition challenges in a business context.
  • Proven history of significant contributions to distributed architectures for model training.
  • Familiarity with responsible AI practices, de-biasing, encryption, and de-identification techniques.
