Qualifications and Requirements

Island Health is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join our team as an Activity Worker. To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A Grade 12 diploma and completion of a recognized Rehabilitation Assistant Program;
  • At least one year of recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience;
  • Certificates in CPR, First Aid, and Food Safe;
  • A valid Class 5 driver's license, with a Class 4 (unrestricted) driver's license being an asset.

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and abilities:

  • Effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing;
  • The physical ability to carry out the duties of the position;
  • The ability to work independently and in cooperation with others;
  • The ability to operate related equipment;
  • The ability to organize and prioritize tasks;
  • The ability to establish and maintain rapport with clients;
  • The ability to observe and recognize changes in clients;
  • The ability to instruct and educate clients;
  • Knowledge of and ability to participate in various arts and crafts, handicrafts, and sports activities;
  • Knowledge of psychosocial rehabilitation principles.
