As a prominent design and construction firm specializing in food and beverage processing facilities, The Dennis Group, Inc. seeks experienced Automation & Controls Engineers. These professionals will collaborate closely with our Process, Packaging, and Building Engineers to fulfill client expectations during the startup, commissioning, and qualification phases of their production facilities. This role necessitates a consistent onsite presence to ensure effective diagnosis, troubleshooting, and operational initiation of production lines, equipment, and facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Address complex engineering challenges and escalate intricate issues to senior engineers or management as necessary.
- With general oversight, design and troubleshoot both software and hardware essential for control systems utilizing PLCs to integrate manufacturing systems.
- Implement automation solutions for manufacturing processes through instrumentation or control systems.
- Design, diagnose, and troubleshoot network infrastructures, including Ethernet, DeviceNet, AS-i, and Profibus.
- Develop new PLC applications, interfaces, or embedded control systems.
- Modify existing setups and oversee the commissioning of new or upgraded facilities.
- Design, specify, wire, and procure control panel equipment, including safety circuits and I/O networks.
- Specify and procure electrical equipment such as MCCs, panelboards, and transformers.
- Create design basis documents and scopes of work.
- Develop functional descriptions and analysis documents for various devices.
- Understand the sizing and placement of control and electrical panels.
- Specify, procure, configure, and troubleshoot control hardware and field instrumentation.
- Coordinate with other engineering disciplines to ensure project success.
- Troubleshoot and resolve operational malfunctions, providing recommendations to enhance efficiency and quality.
- Create commissioning and startup checklists.
- Monitor construction for compliance with plans and specifications.
- Act as the primary technical contact for clients.
- Develop bid documentation for Electrical, Automation, and Low Voltage vendors.
- Document specifications and operational procedures comprehensively.
- Interface and manage installation contractors throughout the construction phase.
- Research and implement best practices in Automation & Controls.
- Support the development of talent within the organization.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to junior engineers as directed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- 8-11 years of experience with Allen Bradley/Rockwell, Siemens, GE Fanuc, and Honeywell Systems.
- Experience in Visual Basic, SQL, and MS ACCESS Database programming is advantageous.
- Proven experience in designing and implementing process network infrastructures.
- 8-11 years of experience in an industrial manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in MS Office and AutoCAD is required.
- This position involves client interaction; successful candidates will be professional, self-motivated, and possess strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to travel extensively, spending significant time at client facilities during installation and startup phases.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit for extended periods while working on a computer.
- Prolonged standing and walking during installation and commissioning activities.
- Capability to lift up to 30 pounds as needed.
Travel Requirements
- Up to 50% travel is necessary to visit project sites and other offices.
