HOURS OF WORK: 40-hour workweek / shift work / variable hours

SALARY GRADE: 5

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $86,091.00 – $ 96,853.00 per annum

MAXIMUM OF SALARY RANGE: $ 107,614.00 per annum

AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Reporting to the Supervisor of Vehicle Maintenance, this role is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of various teams to ensure that all transit vehicles are maintained to the highest safety and cleanliness standards, complying with both corporate and regulatory requirements.

Supervise the vehicle maintenance personnel and equipment on a daily basis. Be available to address staff inquiries, provide on-the-job training, and deliver clear instructions. Inspire the team, mediate conflicts, and investigate root causes to resolve issues. Responsible for scheduling and coordinating staff activities to ensure operational efficiency while ensuring compliance with standards and regulations. Maintain accurate records and reports on a variety of performance metrics. Ensure the completion and submission of inspections mandated by the Ministry of Transportation, manage the Drive Clean program, and follow up on health and safety inspections, accident reports, warranty claims, and recalls. Lead by developing programs, schedules, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the team. Ensure that SOPs and equipment are current to enhance productivity while maintaining safety and quality standards. Engage external suppliers for timely procurement of repair parts and services. Manage the inventory of spare parts through a stockroom with ongoing inventory tracking. Propose modifications to on-site procedures to adapt to regulatory changes and meet customer service expectations. Identify the training and development needs of the team and communicate these to the Supervisor. Regularly share updates with the Supervisor and other stakeholders. Assist in budget preparation and financial oversight. Represent the function in meetings and committees as required. Provide information for Requests for Quotations (RFQs) and Requests for Proposals (RFPs). Address inquiries from both internal and external stakeholders.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

EDUCATION:

Minimum high school (Grade 12) diploma or equivalent Ontario Motor Vehicle Mechanics Licence, class 310T

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

2 years experience in a Vehicle Maintenance environment, Heavy Duty Vehicles preferred, with 2 years experience as a team lead or supervisor in a unionized environment preferred

OTHER SKILLS AND ASSETS:

Strong knowledge of automotive and heavy truck components Ability to comprehend and document procedures (SOPs) in English Familiarity with Health & Safety regulations (e.g., WHMIS) and other relevant legislation (e.g., Highway Traffic Act) is an asset Proficient in using PC and Microsoft Office applications
