Job Summary
The Eastern Ontario Regional Laboratory Association (EORLA) is seeking a highly skilled Autopsy Technician to join our team. As an Autopsy Technician, you will provide technical assistance to pathologists in conducting autopsies and provide other technical services required to carry out examination and dissection of human remains.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect, receive, accession, and prepare samples for diagnostic testing and results reporting of clinical samples.
- Identify and resolve unsuitable specimens for testing.
- Assist with training of new staff and rotate through different specified job functions.
- Provide manual dexterity, fine motor skills, and good hand-eye coordination for precise dissection of delicate anatomical structures and collection of trace forensic evidence.
- Label and document forensic evidence and specimens with high accuracy and consistency.
Requirements
- College diploma from a recognized program or successful completion of MLPAO or CSMLS exam in the appropriate field of practice.
- Minimum of three years of relevant experience.
- Knowledge of medical laboratory theory, principles, and practices.
- Knowledge of applicable occupational health and safety legislation, transportation of dangerous goods, WHMIS, Universal precautions, and safe handling practices.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant university degree from a recognized program in human anatomy and physiology, pathology, or forensic sciences.
- Funeral Director experience.
- Bilingualism is considered an asset.
