Team and Role Overview

As a Principal Software Engineer, you will spearhead the creation of data ingestion systems that handle vast amounts of data and millions of events on a daily basis. This position requires extensive collaboration with Data Science, Data Engineering, and Product teams to align with customer needs, as well as with Data Platform and Storage teams to devise cohesive solutions. We leverage open-source technologies as the backbone of our systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate to define and influence the vision, strategy, and implementation of existing and emerging technologies.
  • Design, construct, and sustain efficient and dependable batch and streaming data pipelines that deliver critical insights across Robinhood's suite of products.
  • Lead projects aimed at enhancing data quality, operational efficiency, and privacy on a large scale.
  • Build strong cross-functional relationships with data producers and consumers throughout Robinhood to ensure our solutions effectively address their requirements.
  • Establish and uphold best practices and standards for data management and lifecycle processes.
  • Provide mentorship to fellow developers at Robinhood, both formally and informally.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 6 years of experience as a senior engineer with a proven track record in leading significant projects, particularly in data infrastructure.
  • Expertise in a wide array of data engineering disciplines, including data and stream processing technologies, data serialization formats, workflow orchestration tools, and data storage solutions.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, Java, Go, or comparable languages.
  • Experience with at least one major cloud service provider (AWS, GCP, Azure).
  • Demonstrated contributions to open-source projects such as Spark, Hudi, Flink, Kafka, etc.
