About the Role

PCL Construction is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Estimating Student to join our team in Ottawa, Ontario. As an Estimating Student, you will play a crucial role in supporting our estimating team in preparing tender documents, contacting trade contractors and suppliers, and performing quantity take-offs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the preparation of tender documents, including bid proposals and estimates.
  • Communicate with trade contractors and suppliers to gather information and support for our bids.
  • Perform and update quantity take-offs to ensure accurate estimates.
  • Update request for information lists to ensure timely responses from contractors and suppliers.
  • Learn and understand trade scope definitions and local market conditions to provide informed estimates.
  • Learn and understand various contractual terms and conditions to ensure compliance.
Requirements
  • Working towards a degree or diploma in a civil engineering or architectural technology related field.
  • Ability to perform quantity take-offs and unit pricing.
  • Ability to read blueprints and understand construction drawings.
  • A passion for working in a construction environment and a desire to learn and grow.
  • Knowledge and understanding of conceptual estimating and contract arrangements.
  • Strong computer skills, including experience with spreadsheets and design software.
  • Prior field construction experience is considered an asset.
