Facility Maintenance Technician
Part-Time, Bargaining Unit PositionPosition Overview:
Under the direction of the Support Services Supervisor or designated personnel, the Facility Maintenance Technician is responsible for ensuring a safe, comfortable, and visually appealing environment for residents, staff, and visitors. All tasks will be performed in compliance with health and safety regulations to guarantee the well-being of all individuals within the facility.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage building systems and secure the facility, including furniture, restrooms, drainage systems, life safety systems such as fire alarms and suppression systems, emergency exits, HVAC systems, hot water boilers, emergency backup generators, and communication systems.
- Address maintenance requests and document repairs performed.
- Direct vehicle flow in parking areas during special events.
- Monitor building systems during inspections and report any irregularities or alarms to the Building Services Supervisor.
- Maintain the maintenance workshop in optimal condition at all times.
- Adhere to Health and Safety regulations consistently.
- Understand and implement fire safety protocols.
- Respond promptly to emergency situations.
- Ensure elevators are safe and operational.
- Track and report inventory needs to the Building Services Supervisor.
- Prepare rooms for specific events and activities.
- Execute scheduled preventative maintenance tasks, including touch-ups of wall paint and equipment inspections.
- Facilitate contractor access to equipment for inspections and emergency repairs.
- Carry out additional duties as assigned by the Building Services Supervisor.
Required Qualifications:
- A minimum of three years of experience in general maintenance and building operations, with at least one year in a long-term care or healthcare setting preferred.
- Proficient knowledge and experience in commercial building operations, including electrical systems, backup generators, HVAC systems, and life safety systems.
- Relevant training leading to a Building Environmental System Operator Class I certificate or equivalent is advantageous.
