The Opportunity

Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Metallurgy Co-op Student to join our team at the Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, British Columbia. This is a 5x2 position, Monday to Friday.

Please note that this opportunity is not a fly-in-fly-out position.

About the Role

As a Metallurgy Co-op Student, you will have the opportunity to apply your metallurgy knowledge to support the Metallurgy Department. You will gain valuable hands-on experience as an integral member of the metallurgy team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform daily reporting of operational data and KPIs, including crushing circuit, mill, and tailings availability.
  • Lead the sampling process in the mill, which can be routine or campaign-based.
  • Conduct tests in the metallurgical lab, including sample preparation, processing, data collection, and analysis.
  • Analyze data, report, and draw conclusions.
  • Support mill maintenance by tracking wear components and interfacing with the maintenance department.
  • Practice safe work behaviors and support the Copper Mountain Mine safety culture.
  • Adhere to personal protective equipment requirements.
  • Follow all Company policies, procedures, and standard operating procedures.
  • Assist the Metallurgical department as directed by the Supervisor.
  • Perform other responsibilities related to the Metallurgy Co-op Student role as required.
Requirements
  • Enrolled in a University degree in Engineering or equivalent, with a minimum of 2nd year.
  • Mill Processing experience is considered an asset.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office.
  • Valid Class 5/7N driver's license and access to personal transportation.
Working Conditions
  • Work in a team environment with regular meetings.
  • Frequent exposure to driving in congested areas under varying weather conditions.
  • Required to be clean-shaven.
  • Role requires walking in congested areas and remote areas on site.
  • Work requires frequent lifting/carrying up to 20 kgs.
Other Requirements
  • Successful completion of pre-employment screening requirements and drug & alcohol testing.
  • Class 5 driver's license and relatively clean driver's abstract required.
  • Demonstrate eligibility to work in Canada.
  • Provide confirmation of valid educational requirements.
Rate of Pay

$58K - $64K / annum.
