Position Summary

Propak Systems Ltd., a recognized leader in the engineering, fabrication, and construction of gas compression and processing facilities for the energy sector, is looking for an Automation Specialist to enhance our Electrical Engineering Department.

The Automation Specialist will undertake advanced, intricate, and confidential assignments that necessitate a solid grasp of fundamental engineering concepts. Control System Specialists are expected to possess a foundational knowledge of the industrial processes relevant to their projects and effectively communicate this to fellow automation team members. They are accountable for fulfilling their designated responsibilities while upholding safety and quality standards in accordance with project timelines. Maintaining open communication with team leads and project managers, updating progress tracking tools, and generating documentation for scope changes are essential tasks. Collaboration with other technical leaders to refine programming practices and graphics standards for the department is encouraged. Identifying training opportunities for personal development is also a key aspect of this role.

Key Responsibilities:

Program and configure PLCs, HMIs, RTUs, and DCS/SCADA systems for the oil and gas sector Assist in the development and maintenance of automation programming standards and templates Commission control systems across North America and internationally Test, calibrate, and troubleshoot electrical equipment and instrumentation Review and modify electrical schematics, P&IDs, Cause Effects, and Critical Settings documents Ensure that each project adheres to contract scope and design specifications Conduct Factory Approval Tests (FAT/SAT/HAT/CAT) on control systems and oil and gas equipment Analyze complex issues independently by engaging with leaders, employees, and clients. Collaborate with engineers to create, review, and modify control philosophies and narratives for oil and gas equipment Assist in system architecture design and provide ongoing technical support to clients Travel domestically and internationally to support the commissioning and start-up of oil and gas equipment (10-30% travel requirement).

Qualifications:

Graduate of a recognized diploma program in Electrical, Instrumentation, or Mechanical Engineering Technology ASET membership is considered an asset Minimum of 2 years' experience in control systems within the oil and gas or petrochemical industries Required experience includes: Programming and configuring PLC/DCS/HMI control systems, Programming Allen Bradley Factory Talk ME/SE and RS Logix 5000/500, Reviewing and modifying P&IDs, Cause and Effect, and Critical Settings documentation, On-site commissioning and start-ups Willingness to travel domestically and internationally. A valid driver's license is required, along with the ability to obtain or currently hold a valid passport. Previous experience in refinery or gas plant operations and fabrication environments is advantageous Experience with an EPCM company is beneficial. Familiarity with DeltaV is a plus Knowledge in the design, installation, and operation of gas processing equipment, including natural gas compression, refrigeration, turbo-expanders, or amine treating plants is an asset
