Government Services - IT Systems Specialist

Location of Work: Remote

Status: Permanent Full-time

Core Functions:

The IT Systems Specialist plays a crucial role in managing daily network administration challenges and incidents. This position involves guiding, mentoring, and overseeing the initiatives of technical staff. Additionally, the IT Systems Specialist is accountable for the performance, integrity, and security of all server systems and network infrastructures within the organization. The incumbent will also work collaboratively to maintain and monitor the utilization of network components.

Functional Responsibilities:

  1. Proactively oversee systems performance and stability.
  2. Manage disaster recovery and business continuity plans for critical services.
  3. Address systems incidents, problems, and changes.
  4. Install and manage Windows server environments.
  5. Establish, oversee, and monitor various backup solutions for servers and data centers.
  6. Provide technical mentorship to other IT personnel.
  7. Coordinate access and utilization of the computer network, including remote access for staff and external partners.
  8. Engage in technical research and development to foster ongoing innovation within the infrastructure and user support.
  9. Offer recommendations regarding system architecture, infrastructure, and software solutions.
  10. Create and maintain documentation, policies, and procedures.

Other Responsibilities:

  1. Stay current with knowledge and skills in relevant areas.
  2. Perform additional duties as necessary.

Qualifications:

Education:

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Information Systems.
  2. Certifications such as MCSE, MCSA, CCNP are advantageous.

Experience:

  1. Five to eight years of relevant experience as a Systems Administrator in a WAN virtual environment.
  2. Five years of experience in a technical leadership role.
  3. Experience with Office 365, SharePoint, and telecommunications equipment.

Language:

  1. Fluency in English.
  2. Fluency in French.
  3. Fluency in Cree is a plus.

Knowledge and Abilities:

  1. Strong understanding of recent Office 365, MS Windows Server, Exchange Server, SQL Server Reporting Services, Queries, SPs, SSIS, and Replication.
  2. Familiarity with Veeam backup and replication technologies.
  3. Knowledge of virtualization technologies and experience with VMWare.
  4. Understanding of HP 3PAR or other SAN systems.
  5. Ability to troubleshoot effectively.
  6. Customer-focused and service-oriented mindset.
  7. Proven communication skills.
  8. Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion.
  9. Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  10. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects.
  11. Sound judgment and proven problem-solving capabilities.
  12. Demonstrated initiative and ability to work under pressure.
  13. Adaptability to changing environments.

Additional Requirements:

  1. Typical office setting with no unusual physical demands.
  2. Willingness to work irregular hours as needed.
  3. Occasional travel may be required.
