Role Summary:
As an integral member of the Finance and Operations team, reporting to the Senior Manager, the Senior Financial Analyst will be instrumental in overseeing the financial management of the OpenROM capital initiative.
This position requires the preparation of detailed financial reports and analyses that adhere to Canadian public sector accounting standards, emphasizing accuracy and strategic insight.
Collaboration is essential in this role, necessitating effective communication with various departments and external partners to ensure the reliability of financial data and reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure the precision and integrity of project expenditures, maintaining compliance with GAAP.
- Develop comprehensive monthly and quarterly financial reports, including capital and project documentation, to present a clear financial overview to senior management and stakeholders.
- Monitor budget allocations against actual spending, performing variance analyses to identify cost efficiencies and proactively address potential budget overruns.
- Track the status of purchase orders, ensuring expenditures align with project budgets and financial strategies.
- Lead the establishment and monitoring of capital project metrics and key performance indicators, delivering actionable insights to enhance project outcomes and financial viability.
- Act as a liaison between project teams and the finance department, fostering a collaborative environment where financial strategies align with project objectives.
- Oversee the preparation of forecasts and strategic financial planning for projects, utilizing insights to inform future financial directions.
- Coordinate with external auditors for annual audits, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards and compliance requirements.
- Prepare and present financial reporting packages for senior management and the Finance and Audit Committee, ensuring stakeholders are well-informed of financial standings and project developments.
- Contribute to the financial team's knowledge sharing by assisting with tax-related research, analysis, reconciliations, and other financial reporting tasks as necessary.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in finance or a related discipline; CPA designation is preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting and financial analysis, including forecasting and planning.
- Proficient in financial modeling, analysis, and technical finance skills.
- Demonstrated accuracy and organizational capabilities in financial tasks.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, financial principles, and analytical methodologies.
- Experience with MS Office 365; familiarity with SAGE 300 ERP is advantageous.
- At least 3 years in a project accounting or financial analyst capacity.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
- Able to manage stress, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills, with a capacity for collaborative work.
- Self-motivated, eager to thrive in a fast-paced setting.
- Proven leadership abilities, capable of functioning independently and as part of a team.
