About the Role:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Butcher/Meat Cutter to join our team at Highland Farms. As a key member of our meat department, you will be responsible for cutting, trimming, grinding, tying, and boning meat to specifications using powered industrial machinery and manual cutting utensils.
Key Responsibilities:
- Cut, trim, grind, tie, and bone meat to specifications using powered industrial machinery and manual cutting utensils.
- Prepare and place cuts of meat in the display counter to attract customers.
- Weigh, wrap, and label cuts of meat.
- Total sales and package customer orders.
- Maintain and clean the department, including the display counter, cutting area, and storage areas.
- Manage inventory and order new stock as needed.
- Provide prompt, courteous, and knowledgeable service to customers.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent preferred.
- At least 3-5 years of experience as a Butcher/Meat Cutter required.
- Strong knowledge of Food Safety guidelines, methods, practices, and techniques.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Excellent customer service, interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Motivated and creative team player.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Able to build relationships with customers.
- Exceptional listening and verbal communication skills.
- Self-motivated, with high energy and an engaging level of enthusiasm.
- Able to perform basic calculations and mathematical figures.
- Ability to work individually and as part of a team.
- High level of integrity and work ethic.
Working Conditions:
- Overtime as required.
- Exposure to sharp objects, machinery, and blood-borne pathogens.
- Personal Protective Equipment must be worn at all times.
- Ability to reach, bend, stoop, and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to break down and reassemble all equipment in the department for sanitation purposes.
- Ability to push or pull up to 1,350 pounds using a pallet jack.
- Handling sharp knives and other equipment such as slicers.
- Potential for slick floors in cutting room during cleaning.
- Exposure to temperature extremes (freezers, coolers, store temperature, outside temperature).
