Position Summary
Propak Systems Ltd., a prominent entity in the engineering, fabrication, and construction of gas compression and processing facilities for the energy sector, is in search of an Automation Specialist to enhance our Electrical Engineering Department.
The Automation Specialist is tasked with executing advanced, intricate, and confidential assignments that necessitate a robust comprehension of fundamental engineering concepts. This role demands a foundational grasp of the industrial processes relevant to your projects, enabling effective communication with fellow automation team members. Responsibilities include delivering on assigned tasks while upholding safety and quality standards in accordance with project timelines. Maintaining regular communication with project leads and managers, updating progress tracking systems, and generating documentation for scope changes are essential duties. Collaboration with other technical leaders to establish programming practices and graphic standards for the department is also crucial. Additionally, identifying training opportunities for personal development is encouraged.
Key Responsibilities:
- Program and configure PLCs, HMIs, RTUs, and DCS/SCADA systems for the oil and gas sector.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of automation programming standards and templates.
- Commission control systems across North America and internationally.
- Test, calibrate, and troubleshoot electrical equipment and instrumentation.
- Review and modify electrical schematics, P&IDs, Cause Effects, and Critical Settings documentation.
- Ensure compliance with contract scope and design specifications for each project.
- Conduct Factory Approval Tests (FAT/SAT/HAT/CAT) on control systems and oil and gas equipment.
- Analyze complex issues independently by engaging with leaders, employees, and clients. Collaborate with engineers to create, review, and modify control philosophies and narratives for oil and gas equipment.
- Assist in the design of system architecture and provide ongoing technical support to clients.
- Travel domestically and internationally to support the commissioning and start-up of oil and gas equipment (10-30% travel required).
Qualifications:
- Graduate of a recognized diploma program in Electrical, Instrumentation, or Mechanical Engineering Technology.
- ASET membership is advantageous.
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in control systems within the oil and gas or petrochemical industries.
- Required experience includes: Programming and configuring PLC/DCS/HMI control systems, Programming Allen Bradley Factory Talk ME/SE and RS Logix 5000/500, Reviewing and modifying P&IDs, Cause and Effect, and Critical Settings documentation, On-site commissioning and start-ups.
- Must be willing to travel domestically and internationally; a valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a valid passport are required.
- Previous experience in refinery or gas plant operations and fabrication environments is beneficial.
- Experience with an EPCM company is a plus. Familiarity with DeltaV systems is also advantageous.
- Knowledge in the design, installation, and operation of gas processing equipment, including natural gas compression, refrigeration, turbo-expanders, or amine treating plants is a plus.
