Lead Civil Engineer for Airport Projects

AECOM is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to serve as a Deputy Manager within our Mississauga office.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the Airside and Infrastructure Engineering (AIE) Manager in directing and overseeing the AIE team, emphasizing task prioritization and workload management to meet business goals.
- Supervise and coordinate design and compliance evaluations and inspections to ensure adherence to applicable codes, standards, regulations, and airport-specific mandates, including the Airport Construction Code.
- Guarantee timely completion of quality reviews that align with the requirements of proposed renovations, alterations, maintenance, and new construction initiatives.
- Manage condition assessments and review the team's annual updates to the rolling 5-year restoration plans for airport-specific civil assets, including budget estimates for capital planning over the five-year span.
- Proactively identify safety hazards and advocate for necessary solutions.
- Provide technical support and direction to the team as required.
- Collaborate with the Planning & Engineering, Capital Delivery, and Commercial Activation teams, as well as key airport-specific stakeholders, including Operations and Maintenance teams, to ensure high levels of customer service.
- Analyze, document, and refine processes and workflows to enhance efficiency and team performance.
- Develop and propose pilot projects for new technologies, methods, and advancements in civil and structural design and construction to assess their potential at Pearson Airport, aiming to reduce construction duration and minimize operational disruptions.
- Coordinate assessments, reviews, and updates of AIE standards and specifications with subject matter experts.
- Represent the AIE Manager in meetings and provide technical expertise as needed.
- Mentor, coach, and support the professional development of airport-specific staff.
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering with a minimum of 10 years of experience in large-scale airport design, construction, and commissioning of major developments or restoration/retrofit projects, including airport civil infrastructure and facilities.
- At least 2 years of leadership experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Preferably, 15 years of experience in the design, construction, and commissioning of large-scale developments or renovation projects, particularly involving airport infrastructure at major airports.
- At least 5 years of leadership experience, with the ability to oversee multiple civil engineering disciplines, such as Structural, Municipal, and Transportation.
- In-depth experience with the application of major Canadian design codes and standards.
- Strong understanding of best practices, emerging trends, and advancements in civil engineering methods and technologies, along with the ability to initiate and implement continuous improvement and innovation initiatives.
- Thorough knowledge of contract terms, contract management, and a solid understanding of construction law.
- Experience in restoration planning and the ability to apply asset management principles to diverse civil infrastructure projects.
- Proficient in various software applications, including Bluebeam and the Microsoft Office suite (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
- Skilled in creating, implementing, and updating schedules and priorities for team management, as well as reporting to managers or program leads.
- Exceptional stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to facilitate meetings and workshops involving large groups of stakeholders.
- Holds a recognized degree in civil engineering, with a focus on structural engineering. A relevant professional designation is considered an advantage.
