Job Summary

The Team
Our Mapping Services Team, part of the Data Systems and Services branch, is a dynamic group focused on delivering cutting-edge solutions for geospatial data visualization and analysis. This well-established team collaborates with technical engineers from the DevOps Chapter, supporting various governmental bodies and the public by enhancing access to geospatial data for informed decision-making. Our team's strengths lie in their collaborative spirit, commitment to client satisfaction, continuous improvement, and a shared appreciation for humor.

The Role
As a technical support analyst, you will be responsible for planning and executing operational support processes, managing infrastructure initiatives, automating routine tasks, and maintaining services and applications under the guidance of senior staff. Your contributions will facilitate access to geospatial data, empowering various ministries and the public to make informed decisions through tools like custom maps and platforms such as iMapBC and BC's Map Hub. This position presents an exciting opportunity to innovate and enhance your skillset while positively impacting the lives of residents.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a computer science related field and 2 years of relevant experience; OR
  • Diploma in a computer science related field and 3 years relevant experience; OR
  • Certificate or coursework in a computer science related field and 4 years relevant experience; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Related experience must include at least one (1) year in each of the following:
  • Experience investigating and implementing complex IT integration challenges.
  • Experience troubleshooting, testing, implementing software and hardware solutions.
  • Experience using modern version control systems including Git and Github.
Preference may be given to applicants with one (1) or more of the following:
  • Experience and/or training using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applications and spatial data formats and management.
  • Experience and/or training integrating geospatial software solutions such as Geoserver, ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Online, PostGIS, Oracle Locator / Spatial, Feature Manipulation Engine (FME).
  • Experience working in an agile development environment with User Experience (UX)/Service Designer teams, Software Developers, and Scrum Masters to iteratively create or improve digital products and services from conception to production.
  • Experience and/or training using more than two scripting/programming languages such as Bash, PowerShell, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Java, or Go.
  • Experience and/or training analyzing system or application logs to troubleshoot issues.
  • Experience and/or training developing automated testing or deployment of applications and services.
