The Water & Wastewater Technician (WWW) program is a comprehensive one-year certificate initiative aimed at equipping students for careers in the water and wastewater sector. We are currently seeking a full-time Laboratory Technology Specialist to join our team. Under the guidance of the program's academic leadership, this role will assist instructional staff in conducting laboratory sessions while maintaining a safe, organized, and efficient laboratory environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Organize weekly laboratory setups in collaboration with instructional staff.
  • Collect water and wastewater samples from various treatment facilities.
  • Inspect and maintain specialized equipment, including tapping machines, cutting tools, hydrants, pumps, meters, chemical feed systems, and valves to ensure optimal functionality.
  • Operate and evaluate various display systems, including process simulation tools.
  • Calibrate and troubleshoot precision laboratory instruments.
  • Manage inventory control for small power, pneumatic, and cordless tools and accessories.
  • Ensure proper ordering, handling, and storage of lab materials and supplies.
  • Assist in the development and documentation of safety protocols, participating in Health and Safety Committees as needed.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong mechanical aptitude is essential.
  • Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Office and Peoplesoft.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (23 kg) as required.

Qualifications:

  • A two-year related diploma along with coursework and experience in water/wastewater operations. A WWWT Certificate or equivalent, and/or Water and Wastewater Provincial Certification is advantageous.
  • A valid Class 5 driver's license is required, along with a driver's abstract.

Applicants with educational credentials obtained outside of Canada should have their qualifications evaluated by World Education Services or the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS).

Compensation:

The annual salary for this position is $51, $69,092.14, accompanied by a comprehensive benefits package. (Classification – Laboratory Technology Specialist II).

This position is governed by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement.
