Position Overview

The Registered Nurse (RN) plays a pivotal role in our Rehab Neuro Unit (RNU), a 40-bed facility specializing in acute medicine, acute stroke/neurology, and stroke/neurology rehabilitation. This unit provides an excellent opportunity for staff to broaden their expertise and skills, particularly in the fields of medicine and neuro/stroke subspecialties.

Collaboration is key in our multidisciplinary team, which includes dedicated occupational therapists, physiotherapists, speech language pathologists, social workers, nurse practitioners, and various nursing roles. We invite you to become a valued member of our RNU family.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver patient and family-centered care within the RN scope of practice, adhering to the three-factor framework established by the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Operate in accordance with established hospital policies and procedures, including emergency protocols.
  • Ensure that nursing practice aligns with entry-to-practice competencies, standards, guidelines, and relevant legislation.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and all healthcare team members.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to address the needs of patients with complex health conditions.
  • Contribute to the ongoing assessment and documentation of each patient's health status.
  • Assist in developing and implementing individualized Plans of Care and evaluate their effectiveness.
  • Participate in the orientation and mentorship of new staff and students.
  • Act as a role model, integrating safe and best practices into daily activities to ensure exemplary care delivery.
  • Assume charge nurse responsibilities as assigned.
  • Engage in the development, implementation, and evaluation of clinical pathways.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

  • Registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) as a Registered Nurse.
  • Current BCLS certification is required.
  • BScN is preferred.
  • Current ACLS certification is preferred.
  • Recent experience in a medical or complex medical rehabilitation nursing unit within the last two years.
  • Experience working with CVA patients is advantageous.
  • Proficient in using glucose monitoring devices and maintaining IVs.
  • Exemplary physical assessment skills.
  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and critical thinking abilities.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of an interprofessional team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and public relations skills.
  • Commitment to fostering a safe and inclusive environment for all.
  • Proficient in electronic documentation.
