Job Overview:

We are seeking a Regional Newsline Editor for CBC Montreal's weekday radio newsreader. This is a full-time permanent role.

Your Responsibilities:

At CBC News, we focus on original journalism, uncovering angles that resonate with our audience, and sharing stories rooted in our English-speaking communities in Montreal and throughout the province.

We pride ourselves on delivering timely and accurate news coverage. Our radio news service is recognized as the best in the city and province.

As the weekday radio newsreader, you will present news on the radio and to audiences tuning in live on our website or through our apps. You will be an outstanding broadcaster, journalist, and leader, ensuring our digital content is current and can review web copy as needed.

Key Responsibilities Include:

Curate and present radio news on weekdays Review radio scripts for accuracy Conduct interviews, gather clips, and write content to keep weekend newscasts updated Present news headlines and updates interactively on the morning current affairs radio show Pursue breaking news stories as necessary Assign tasks to radio and digital reporters Review digital content for accuracy Be prepared to host special radio news segments during significant breaking news events Propose original story ideas and angles This role also requires reporting for our news platforms

Ideal Candidate Qualifications:

A) Educational Background:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent Five (5) years of journalism experience or equivalent

B) Required Skills:

Extensive general knowledge In-depth understanding of current events and news across the province Connection to and understanding of Quebec's diverse and underrepresented communities Ability to perform effectively under pressure and meet deadlines, responding swiftly to changing priorities and breaking news Strong commitment to enhancing the quality of radio newscasts Excellent skills in vetting radio and digital content Proficient reporting, interviewing, and writing abilities Engaging on-air presence and live broadcasting skills Comprehensive knowledge of the logistics of an integrated, mobile-first newsroom A strong commitment to promoting diversity and fostering an inclusive and respectful workplace culture. Ability to edit clips from various sources for radio Fluency in English Proficient knowledge of French Familiarity with CBC/Radio-Canada's Journalistic Standards and Practices Flexibility to work various shifts as required by assignments
