Job Title: Recreation Therapist

Job Summary:

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is seeking a Recreation Therapist to join our team at Riverview Gardens Long-Term Care Home. As a Recreation Therapist, you will play a vital role in assessing, programming, and implementing therapeutic recreation, leisure, and restorative needs for our residents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess resident needs and develop individualized recreation and leisure plans
  • Implement and evaluate recreation and leisure programs, including exercise and restorative training
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive care
  • Prepare and maintain records of resident participation and progress
  • Develop and implement programs to promote resident engagement and participation
  • Provide guidance and support to volunteers and students
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to a positive work environment

Requirements:

  • Secondary school graduation diploma or equivalent
  • College diploma or university degree in recreation therapy, therapeutic recreation, or related field
  • At least one year of experience in an activation department in a healthcare setting
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Basic computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Gentle Persuasive Approach training
  • Gerontology specialty courses
  • Experience working with clients with Alzheimer's and/or dementia

Working Conditions:

  • Work mostly indoors
  • Variable hours, including weekends and statutory holidays
  • Must be able to accept call-in hours on short notice

Benefits:

As per the UNIFOR (RVG collective agreement, this permanent casual position would receive 15% in lieu of benefits and 4% vacation pay.
