Position Overview: The Society for Conservation Biology is seeking applications for a tenure-track faculty role at the rank of Assistant or entry-level Associate Professor, focusing on Indigenous methodologies in environmental studies from both natural and social science perspectives.
Research Focus: Priority areas of research include, but are not limited to:
- Indigenous practices in land and water management, conservation, and biocultural diversity.
- Environmental science and biodiversity.
- Connections between biodiversity and Indigenous governance, sovereignty, and legal frameworks.
- Environmental justice issues, dispossession, and biodiversity degradation.
- The relationship between Indigenous community health and ecosystem vitality.
Qualifications: We are looking for candidates who possess the following:
- A Ph.D. in Geography or a related field (candidates nearing completion of their doctorate may also be considered).
- Demonstrated potential for research excellence, including the ability to initiate and sustain externally funded research initiatives.
- Experience in teaching and curriculum development at both undergraduate and graduate levels, particularly in Indigenous Environmental Studies.
- Established connections with Indigenous communities through formal affiliations or recognized relationships.
Institutional Context: The successful candidate will join a department that spans natural sciences and humanities, committed to principles of Indigenous self-determination, community involvement, and critical engagement with environmental issues. The department offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs in Geography.
Research Collaboration: The candidate will be affiliated with the Society for Conservation Biology's interdisciplinary research initiatives aimed at fostering biodiversity and promoting sustainable practices. The collaborative environment is designed to support transformative social and ecological changes that benefit both biodiversity and diverse communities.
