About the RoleCmha Yr is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Addictions Counsellor to join our team in the Substance Treatment, Recovery, and Empowerment for Addiction Management (STREAM) Program.
Key Responsibilities- Provide individual and group counselling services to clients struggling with addiction and substance use issues.
- Conduct thorough assessments of clients' needs and develop personalized treatment plans.
- Work collaboratively with clients, families, and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care.
- Develop and implement harm reduction strategies to support clients in reducing their substance use.
- Provide education and support to clients and their families on topics such as relapse prevention, self-care, and coping strategies.
- Collaborate with the Nurse Practitioner to provide best practice assessment, treatment, navigation, and support to individuals and families with concurrent disorders.
- Degree in a relevant field (e.g. social work, psychology, counselling) plus four years of experience in a community-based organization working with adults with serious mental illness.
- Registration in good standing with a regulatory College (e.g. Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario).
- Certification in addiction counselling is an asset.
- Lived experience related to substance use and/or mental health is an asset.
- Knowledge and experience with concurrent disorders and community withdrawal management (i.e. theories of addiction, treatment modalities, pharmacology knowledge, harm reduction, etc.).
- Experience working with individuals experiencing serious mental illness, concurrent disorders, and dual diagnosis (developmental disability and/or traumatic brain injury) is preferred.
- Excellent problem-solving, monitoring, and patient examination skills.
- Strong reasoning and thinking skills.
- Knowledge of the Ontario Mental Health Act, mental health reform principles, the Substitute Decisions Act, the Health Care Consent Act, and PHIPA requirements.
- Ability to apply Recovery principles and empowerment-oriented philosophies and practices in work with clients.
- Driver's License Abstract required, and a valid Canadian driver's license, a minimum of $1,000,000 third-party liability insurance.
- Additional training in harm reduction, trauma-informed care, recovery, mental health, and various therapeutic modalities such as motivational interviewing or crisis prevention management are strong assets.
The Addictions Counsellor will work in a dynamic and supportive team environment, providing services in a variety of settings, including office work, community settings, and meetings in clients' homes.
