Key Responsibilities:

Team Leadership

  • Assist the Merchandise Processing Manager in orchestrating the efforts of the Merchandise Processing Team and Recyclers to ensure a smooth and timely flow of products to the sales area, while maintaining optimal inventory levels.
  • Support the Merchandise Processing Manager in the recruitment process, including selection, screening, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding of Merchandise Processing Team Members and Recyclers.
  • Lead training initiatives for Merchandise Processing Team Members and Recyclers in the areas of sorting, inspecting, grading, and rolling of merchandise, among other essential tasks.
  • Provide ongoing coaching to Team Members throughout their shifts to ensure that performance standards are consistently met.
  • Act as a vital member of the management team by offering support, participating in meetings, and sharing relevant information.

Employee Relations

  • Assist the Merchandise Processing Manager in guiding Merchandise Processing Team Members and Recyclers on company policies and procedures.
  • Identify and report any policy violations to the Merchandise Processing Manager or General Manager.
  • Contribute to the implementation of employee recognition initiatives and events.

Health and Safety

  • Oversee the merchandise processing and recycling areas to ensure they are organized and maintained according to company cleanliness standards.
  • Implement precautionary measures and adhere to company protocols to prevent both external and internal theft, taking appropriate action when incidents occur.
  • Ensure a safe working environment by identifying and eliminating hazards, and reporting any issues to the Merchandise Processing Manager, General Manager, and Joint Health and Safety Committee.
  • Promptly report and document any accidents involving employees or customers to the Merchandise Processing Manager or General Manager.

Departmental Duties

  • Coordinate and assist with the sorting, inspecting, grading, pricing, rolling, and ragging of merchandise.
  • Support the Merchandise Processing Manager in preparing for and executing sale events.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Maintain professionalism in all communications with peers, management, and customers.
  • Collaborate with store management to ensure that operations and production teams work cohesively towards shared objectives, which may involve sharing responsibilities across departments.
  • Perform other job-related tasks as assigned by the Merchandise Processing Manager or General Manager.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a retail warehouse setting.
  • At least 1 year of supervisory experience in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in a thrift retail environment is advantageous.

  • Job Recognition: Identify when to escalate specific issues to the Merchandise Processing Manager.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand and walk for the duration of the shift.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive hand movements.
  • Capability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lbs without assistance throughout the shift.
  • Ability to push and pull merchandise containers on wheels weighing up to 500 lbs.

Work Environment:

  • Exposure to dust throughout the designated shift.
  • Encounter periodic temperature fluctuations and varying noise levels.
  • Work schedule may include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
