The Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (OFAH) is actively seeking an Accounting Manager. This role will collaborate closely with all OFAH personnel, under the guidance of the Director of Finance. The selected candidate will oversee the daily functions of the accounting team, which includes managing accounts payable and receivable, payroll processing, monthly account reconciliations, audit preparations, and generating reports based on financial data analysis.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise the daily operations of the accounting department through effective management, review, training, and task delegation.
- Mentor and lead the accounting team, conducting annual performance evaluations for direct reports.
- Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements and scrutinize the general ledger for variances or discrepancies.
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations, accounting standards, and tax legislation in daily operations.
- Coordinate and facilitate the activities necessary for annual audits by providing requested information to auditors.
- Lead the collection and organization of information required for the annual budgeting process.
- Manage and execute bi-weekly payroll for full-time employees and complete Records of Employment as necessary.
- Review bi-weekly payroll for part-time and contract staff prior to submission.
- Guarantee that all internal reporting is accurate, complete, and distributed to staff promptly, assisting them in understanding budgets and variances.
- Assist with banking activities, including authorizing fund transfers and government payments.
- Review accounts payable coding before processing in the system.
- Oversee monthly account reconciliations and address discrepancies as needed.
- Monitor accounting software to ensure optimal performance and implement enhancements to improve the integrity of accounting systems.
Education and Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in finance, business, commerce, or accounting, or equivalent work experience.
- A minimum of five years of relevant experience in accounting and financial analysis.
- Accounting designation (CA/CPA) is considered an asset.
- Familiarity with Accounting Principles for Charities and Nonprofit Organizations.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Proficient in computer applications (MS Excel, MS Office, accounting software, AMS solutions).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated managerial experience and leadership capabilities.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy.
- Analytical problem-solving abilities.
- Experience in budget management.
- Ability to multitask and maintain organization in a fast-paced environment.
- Commitment to confidentiality.
Other Requirements:
Applicants must possess a valid OFAH Membership (required at time of hire). OFAH employees are required to complete a vulnerable sector check every three years.
