POSITION SUMMARY

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Thompson Rivers University is in search of a part-time instructor for the upcoming semester to deliver a course in EDSL4200, focusing on the French language as a second language.

Course Overview

This course provides students with an introduction to effective instructional and assessment methodologies that enhance the acquisition of a second language among elementary learners. Emphasis is placed on the creation of a proficiency-oriented curriculum, alongside the simultaneous development of listening, speaking, reading, and writing competencies. Teacher candidates will gain insights into various teaching techniques, procedures, and educational resources tailored for instructing second languages to children, with a particular focus on French. Candidates interested in other languages are encouraged to modify strategies to suit their specific language and adapt assignments accordingly.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor of Education degree is mandatory.
  • A Master of Education degree is highly desirable.
  • Recent experience in K-12 education is essential.
  • Advanced proficiency in French as a second language is required.
  • Experience teaching French in elementary or secondary education is strongly preferred.
  • Previous successful experience in post-secondary education is advantageous.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills are necessary.
  • Proven ability to foster intercultural understanding, empathy, and mutual respect is required.
  • Demonstrated experience in incorporating Indigenous knowledge and pedagogical methods is essential.
  • Evidence of teaching excellence, including the development of culturally relevant curricula, is required.
