Job Title: Database Administrator

Telesat is seeking a highly skilled Database Administrator to join our Platform Engineering team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing, building, and operating cloud-based databases to support our business operations.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement data administration policies, standards, and models.
  • Research and document data requirements, data collection, and administration policies.
  • Design, build, document, and optimize database schemas.
  • Monitor database performance, availability, and security, and audit existing designs.
  • Support database operations across Telesat, including connectivity, integration, design, and maintenance activities.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical or engineering field or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 2 years of relevant industry experience with the deployment, management, and automation of cloud-based resources.
  • At least 3 years of experience in the operation of databases and related environments.
  • Proven experience in the design, build, and operations of both relational and NoSQL database infrastructure.
  • Strong understanding and hands-on experience in operations and management of public cloud-computing environments.
  • Understanding of DevOps concepts.
  • Familiarity with SRE concepts would be an asset.
  • Understanding of microservices and containerization and container orchestration (Kubernetes) would be an asset.
Working Conditions:
  • Generally comfortable working conditions with lifting and onsite installations.
  • Moderate visual concentration in use of video display terminal.
  • Candidates must live in the Ottawa-Gatineau area or be willing to relocate to Ottawa-Gatineau. Relocation assistance will be provided to those who qualify.
  • Candidates must be willing to be onsite three (3) days per week.

The successful candidate must be able to work in Canada and obtain clearance under the Canadian Controlled Goods program (CGP). Canadian government security clearance may also be required.
