Within our Technology Division, you play a crucial role in maintaining a sophisticated, dependable, and resilient telecommunications network that provides top-notch communication solutions to our clientele. Your responsibilities include planning, designing, implementing, and supporting our internal and external network infrastructure through the deployment of state-of-the-art, cost-efficient technology. The Technology Division at SaskTel oversees the Strategy, Planning, Development, Implementation, and Support of all technology associated with our telecommunications infrastructure and services.

SaskTel is currently experiencing a transformative phase in its history. The advent of 5G technology and the shift towards Cloud solutions are reshaping the Telecommunications sector. We are evolving into a more Agile organization and adopting DevOps practices to enhance our operational efficiencies. This transformation fosters a collaborative team environment, closely aligning the Design and Evaluation of technology with Implementation and Support, thereby creating continuous feedback loops for improvement.

Our Technology departments have exciting future opportunities for the following positions:

Professional Engineer:

In this role, you will assess corporate planning and network data, evaluating both existing network components and new technological alternatives. You will develop, maintain, and issue Network Architecture plans, contribute to the formulation of network strategic plans, and assist in the development of capital and operational budgets. This position is typically based in our main locations.

Required Education and Experience:

  • A successful Professional Engineer will hold a university degree in Electronics Engineering, Electronic Information Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, or Software Systems Engineering, along with eligibility for membership in the Association of Professional Engineers of Saskatchewan. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in telecommunications equipment and systems, as well as knowledge of the planning process and economic cost analysis.
Junior Engineer:

As a Junior Engineer, you will have the chance to plan, design, implement, and support our internal and external network infrastructure by utilizing cutting-edge, cost-effective technology. You will contribute to the enhancement of our technical resources in Telco Cloud, Network, and Services. Collaborating with vendors, you will design and implement Service Provider Networks, Telco Cloud, onboarding Virtual Network Functions and Container Network Functions, and Automation. There will be a strong emphasis on your ongoing development and achieving your P.Eng.

In this position, you will be paired with a Senior Engineer and Technologists for mentorship and guidance. Our aim is to leverage your existing knowledge and skills while facilitating your growth into a versatile Engineer within the Communications Industry. You will be part of a small team of Engineers and Technologists, interfacing with Development groups, Technology Planners, Implementation and Support teams, Marketing and Sales teams, and various equipment vendors. Although you will initially focus on one area, there will be opportunities to rotate to other sectors to broaden your expertise.

Required Education and Experience:

  • A degree in Engineering in disciplines such as Electrical, Electronics, Electronic Systems, Software Systems, Computer, or Physics, and qualified to register as a Professional Engineer or Member in Training.
  • General knowledge of telecommunications and cloud architectures and infrastructure.
Engineering Assistant (Provisioning):

In this capacity, you will design, provision, document, support, and manage network element implementation projects, customer data, and service requests for narrow and broadband. You will ensure the maintenance of our Core, Access, and Wireless networks while providing support to internal and external customers during the installation of both new and existing technologies.

Required Education and Experience:

  • A Diploma in Electronics Engineering or an equivalent qualification recognized by the Canadian Council of Technicians and Technologists, or Level 30 Algebra, Geo-Trig, and Physics supplemented with training in electronics.
Technical Assistant (Advancing Technologies):

In this role, you will design, provision, document, support, and manage network element implementation projects, customer data, and service requests for narrow and broadband. You will ensure the maintenance of our Core, Access, and Wireless networks while providing support to internal and external customers during the installation of both new and existing technologies.

Required Education and Experience:

  • A Diploma in Electronics Engineering or an equivalent qualification recognized by the Canadian Council of Technicians and Technologists, or Level 30 Algebra, Geo-Trig, and Physics supplemented with training in electronics.
