Position Overview

The Financial Services department is seeking a dedicated Accounting Clerk to manage donation processing and financial reporting. This role reports directly to the Director of Financial Reporting and encompasses a variety of responsibilities, including:

  • Processing and reconciling donation receipts
  • Depositing incoming donations
  • Handling payments and deposits for multiple departments
  • Maintaining and entering pledge information
  • Conducting monthly reconciliations of bank accounts and donation records
  • Preparing year-end financial documentation
  • Overseeing the adherence to the University’s gift acceptance policies

The primary objective of this position is to foster positive working relationships, mitigate payment risks, comply with regulatory requirements, and deliver efficient and consistent services.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a college diploma and have a minimum of 1-2 years of relevant accounting experience, demonstrating:

  • Understanding and compliance with established policies and procedures
  • Proficient computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Excel and Outlook
  • Capability to analyze and communicate the implications of financial transactions
  • Strong multitasking abilities and effective prioritization of time-sensitive tasks

The successful applicant will combine their technical accounting expertise with excellent teamwork skills, showcasing outstanding written and verbal communication, analytical thinking, and initiative. Attention to detail and organizational skills are crucial for this role. The position requires professional judgment, problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to identify issues effectively. This role operates in a fast-paced environment where adaptability, deadline management, and a positive, professional demeanor under pressure are essential for success.

Preference may be given to candidates with experience in a higher education setting and familiarity with Banner software. Knowledge of the Canada Revenue Agency’s regulations regarding charitable donations is considered an asset.
