Job Summary
The Health and Safety Specialist will support the daily operations and administer health and safety related functions in the facility. This role will assist in investigations to identify and resolve issues, and support the health and safety manager in these investigations.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day health and safety functions
- Determine and describe causes and impacts of problems
- Present information clearly and concisely, both in writing and verbally
- Develop, implement, and monitor safety initiatives in compliance with regulations
- Assist in monitoring employees on modified duty and working with HR and WCB for return-to-work
- Chair monthly Occupational Health and Safety meetings and participate in the CND Health & Safety Council meetings
- Assist in WSB workplace inspections and complete monthly safety inspections
- Participate in GFS safety audits and implement best practices
- Conduct on-site orientations for new hires and ensure they are pre-qualified
- Ensure completion and tracking of contractors' safety agreements
- Conduct monthly internal inspections and audits
- Assist with emergency planning and procedures
- Ensure fire procedures are compliant with provincial fire codes
- Collect, review, and analyze internal incident reports and investigations
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Health and Safety or a combination of education, training, and relevant work experience
- Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written form
- Self-starter with good time management and documentation skills
- Dependable with the ability to work effectively as part of a team or individually
- Willingness to learn, accept change, and work in a fast-paced environment
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically in Excel and Word, and familiarity with Google Platform is an asset
