About the Role

Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Senior Environmental Scientist to join our team at the Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. As a key member of our environmental team, you will be responsible for environmental project management and supporting environmental awareness across the site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in all Company Environment and Health & Safety programs
  • Provide oversight and coordination of Water management projects, including water treatment, groundwater well installation, and flow monitoring systems
  • Reclamation planning, monitoring, and implementation
  • National Pollutant Release Inventory (NPRI) and Greenhouse Gas (GHG) reporting and support for verifications
  • Liaise with Communities of Interest as a technical expert
  • Work to advance the use of technology in supporting compliance and monitoring
  • Develop and maintain department Standard Operating Plans
  • Support the move to ISO compliance as necessary
  • Develop, update, and implement environmental management plans and monitor compliance with the plans and any projects related to the plans
  • Investigate non-compliances and write reports as required
  • Develop waste and recycling management program
  • Support the achievement of TSM protocols

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental, Biological, or Earth Sciences or other relevant science or engineering degree
  • Registered professional or eligible for registration
  • Minimum 5 years of related work experience in the mining industry
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and Google
  • Previous experience in a leadership role is an asset
  • Project Management experience
  • Mine reclamation experience considered an asset
  • Mines Supervisor Certification (and experience) is an asset
  • Possess a valid driver's license and have access to personal transportation

Working Conditions

  • Work consists of a team environment with regularly scheduled and ad-hoc meetings
  • Frequent exposure to sitting at a computer doing work online
  • Role may operate in a potentially stressful environment caused by constant requests from several people causing uncertainty and ambiguity
  • Work may require the employee to be physically capable of working outside on difficult terrain and in all weather conditions

Salary Range

$100K - $120K / annum
